I've been within 5 metres of one in Queenlsand and it was a pretty big adrenaline rush. Overseas tourist was standing about 2 metres away snapping photos, I was basically waiting for him to lose his guts in fron of his family, lucky for him they walked the other way. They really look like dinosaurs.

Try adding some solder to your tip, it should 'wet' the tip and then the wick, and then the joint that's keeping the wick stuck down, allowing you to remove it.

Keep at it, even if you have to give it up later, the skills (and just the technical) from doing it yourself are invaluable, and the good employers (they exist!) will recognise.
