Since January, more than 25% of NPS's permanent staff have been lost - and another mass layoff is on the horizon. Parks were already understaffed before this, and terminating more staff positions will decimate our National Park System.

To save our parks, we must advocate for the people that make our parks extraordinary.

Let's make it clear to Congress that when the government reopens, they must fully staff the National Park Service AND block any further attempts to slash its workforce. https://bit.ly/4nj5yDi

"Permitting the Ambler mining road ignores the cost, the wishes of the people of the region, the impact to America’s wildlife and national parks, and the engineering challenges of building a 211-mile road across melting permafrost," - Jim Adams, NPCA https://bit.ly/4mOiWPz

National Park Service staff are the heartbeat of our parks. They work every day to maintain the places we all love — yet are facing a staffing crisis unlike ever before. We must come together and tell Congress to stand up for our parks and their staff. https://act.npca.org/page/89642/action/1

❌ 25% of NPS permanent staff lost, history erased from parks & more mass firings on the horizon.

We just have one question for Interior Secretary Burgum: Why? Why are you unraveling the very fabric of our national parks instead of protecting them?

NPCA's Cara Capp appeared on @msnbc.com to discuss the mission critical role National Park Service staff play in protecting our parks and enhancing visitor experience with Alex Tabet.

"We need our park rangers, we need our park staff."
October 7, 2025 at 9:26 PM
➡️ The solution is clear: Secretary Burgum must close parks until the shutdown ends.

⚠️ Our parks and visitor safety are on the line. This will only get worse as the shutdown drags on.

We love parks - but during a federal shutdown when thousands of park staff are furloughed, parks should close.

NPCA's SVP of Government Affairs Kristen Brengel went on @cbsnews.com.web.brid.gy the night before the shutdown to explain how this protects parks and why we're concerned for NPS staff.

🚨 We are sounding the alarm 🚨

The government shutdown will leave our parks understaffed and vulnerable, putting our most cherished places and millions of visitors at risk.

The differences between these three budgets could not be greater. The Senate budget is the best option for our national parks. With the Oct. 1 fiscal deadline approaching, the clock is ticking and the future of our national parks is on the line. www.npca.org/articles/101...

The administration slashed National Park Service staffing, delayed seasonal hiring and is pushing current staff to their limits.

The resulting, extensive impacts in this new report are just the beginning if they don’t change course. https://bit.ly/4mtyWaq
