Despite FASD being the most prevalent neurodisability, many medical professionals have low awareness of this neurodisability. 80% of people with FASD also have ADHD and people with FASD may be mistakenly diagnosed with ADHD.

Studies show that pregnant women's use of alcohol correlates with that of their partner. Paying attention to both parents' use of alcohol may help prevent drinking during pregnancy, as well as the impacts of prenatal alcohol exposure.

Prenatal alcohol exposure is the leading preventable cause of birth defects in the United States. In the United States, up to 1 in 20 children has a fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). This makes FASD more common than spina bifida, anencephaly, and autism, which affect 1 in 31 children.
