Such derogatory language, and it has the stench of classism. I can see how disaffection amongst the lumpen can lead to it being a class particularly vulnerable to fascist elements, but not inherent to it. Plenty of us class conscious lumpen around I promise.

Atheism is absolutely an ideology and worldview. By claiming atheism, you are making concrete statements about the way you think the world works; a framework to which reality comports. You might use the term agnostic otherwise.

So the discussion is not about the actual tennants of one faith or another, rather the actions of the organizations, and their relationship to the state. We are criticising behaviour not belief.

Look, im not going to sit here and say that there arent major systemic problems with religious organizations. I would argue, however, that none of the things worth talking about have anything to do with the faith in question, but rather the organizations using that faith as cover, and justification.

Respect what exactly? The notion that a community that one is a part of becomes a part of oneself? Were talking specifically of people being more upset about critiques of religion than of capitalism, not the merits of faith itself.

Why do you need to personally relate to something to understand it? I also grew up, and am nominally atheist and have no sense of nationalism.

Like nationalism, people personally identify with their religion. One would say they are a muslim, rather than they believe in or follow islam. When one attaches ideas to ones identity, and those ideas are attacked, one feels personally attacked.
