They worship the god of the Old Testament. They admire evil.

It's a dog whistle. They claim it didn't mean that, but it means that.

Right. So therefore either the book is flawed or the whole thing is made up.

They were fooled into believing in a god that mass murders. Death is part of their faith.

They'd call Jesus "woke" and demand to see him deported if they met him

You forget that toilet paper was invented in 1895.

You can't argue for murdering gay people and call that civil. You can't say that black people are less intelligent by nature and call that civil. You can't argue for elimination of freedom of religion for non-Christians and be called civil.

Don't confuse tone with civility.

Sadly, most of his defenders agree with his sentiments and hope they'll be normalized via sympathy and respect for the dead.

That version of the US died in the Civil War.

That practice goes not only back to the Romans, but into the Old Testament. Powerful people manipulated religion to gather power
September 13, 2025 at 8:19 PM
And that's with a literal, inerrant take. Figurative and errant views leave even more room to avoid the hatred.

Not all religion is so rules-based. You're absolutely right about the fundamentalists and their hateful dogmas, though.

I don’t know of any way to influence what happens after this life. It’s not up to me in any way.

It’s a stress response in many cases.

Ultimately, the fate of people like Hitler or Kirk is not my problem. All we can do is trust that what is right will happen on the other side.

I’m not big on doctrine. The Bible is an imperfect book written, translated, and redacted by imperfect people. Some had the best of intentions and made mistakes. Others intentionally manipulated the message.

I do know that I believe in love, a radical love that exceeds our understanding.

I don’t believe in hell. I also have no idea what the divine does with people like Hitler. It will be just, whatever it is.
September 12, 2025 at 10:52 PM
We can find both good and bad in all of those traditions. Our mission needs to be finding the good and rejecting the bad.
September 12, 2025 at 10:49 PM
I vehemently disapprove of the things Charlie Kirk said, but at the same time, the divine loves everyone, even him. On the other side, he might not be a lost cause. I hope he becomes a better spirit or something.

There’s a reason they call it “Dixie”, but also don’t forget that there are good people down there, too. We need to be better than the far right and not judge people based on demographics.
September 12, 2025 at 10:47 PM
Religion definitely needs to work on being better. You’re absolutely right.
September 12, 2025 at 10:43 PM
Religion can be better, and we should strive to improve it.
September 12, 2025 at 10:42 PM
He was as unchristian as they come.
