This little guy walking with the Canada Geese is a Cackling Goose. Until 20 years ago they were considered the same species, but when you see the two next to each other the differences in size and proportions are significant.

From the archives… this MODO is one of several that would frequent the feeder at my old apartment. Over time they became more trusting and wouldn’t mind me moving around just a few feet away from them. I miss them!

Last Saturday I added the 250th species to my life list! These Tundra Swans were swimming in a flooded field near many Cackling Geese, Sandhill Cranes, and White-faced Ibises. So cool to see all these large birds in one place.

Beak looks too thick for a Manakin, to me it looks like a male Scarlet Tanager that’s molting and/or the orange variant of their breeding plumage

I haven’t seen any Kinglets since they left my area in the spring, I’m excited for them to return! This is the only picture I’ve managed to get of one.
