There are also farmers who say they can use agricultural waste in regenerative ways. The ultimate hope is that both regenerative and innovative practices can one day be scaled enough to substantially reduce agricultural waste.

Proponents argue that this presents a low-land, low-energy alternative to traditional carbon removal methods. However, some environmentalists say that depositing crops in ocean basins could disrupt fragile ecosystems and may divert attention from the more pressing issue of waste reduction.

In response, some are advocating for the disposal of agricultural waste in deep, anoxic ocean basins instead. These oxygen-free environments prevent the decomposition of organic matter. Dumping agricultural waste into the basins would significantly slow the release of carbon from decaying plants.

Maybe we should acknowledge that each region, even each farm, has different input needs and stop turning “regenerative farming” into an elitist model.

It seems that only small farmers can grow regeneratively, but when large corporations adopt crop rotation and reduced pesticide practices, it is greenwashing.
The panel is discussing making the parameters around regenerative farming more strict to separate who is doing is right.
