Plenty of writings from enslavers like Jefferson recognizing slavery was wrong. Hell, even the Declaration of Independence said it was wrong but blamed the King for it.

Yes. That's the only way that the GOP's racial and partisan gerrymandering and racially exclusionary immigration policies don't register for them as Republicans "choosing their voters." To them, an entirely white electorate is just to be presumed as the "natural" state of affairs.

I suppose it's possible to see the brain-control devices as a metaphor, just as the clones were.

I guess in that case it's still a flawed metaphor in that it entirely denies the troopers any agency and, as a result, any culpability.
