#LTHEchat A6 One thing to change? How about reviewing and enhancing the role and status of technical staff supporting the computing infrastructure. I've been fortunate to work with excellent staff over the years but often felt that their expertise and initiative was under-valued.

#LTHEchat A5 If the digital leaders were all themselves digitally fluent and simultaneously committed to introducing new tech which genuinely made life better for staff - wouldn't that the culture change we need?

#LTHEchat A4 Now that we have a free browser with ChatGPT built-in and some Lerge Language Models openly advertising their virtues as expert plagiarists, what could possibly be the problem?

#LTHEchat A4 Are we asking students what they think these literacies involve? And what they expect to see In their future worklife?
October 22, 2025 at 7:35 PM
#LTHEchat A1 Doesn't the 'rise' of GenAI give LD and LDers a unique opportunity to 'rebadge' academic literacy and become the main focus for helping students and staff to develop critical AI literacy? Who else is going to do it?

@lthechat.bsky.social A1 My go-to solution has to be a concept map - use Cmap freeware. It changed my life!

#LTHEchat A5 How about - go and see if you can find out what it cost to produce that image.
June 4, 2025 at 7:49 PM
#LTHEchat A4 Couple of suggestions. Ask the AI to produce an image of a specific historical event and then add up the errors. The other obvious one is 'spot the stereotypes'.

#LTHEchat A2 Have you tried images of clock faces without specifying the time? Have you tried an image of a person writing with a fountain pen? Which hand did they use?

A2 #LTHEchat When folk become 'stuck' on a single or limited approach or worldview, then you have to worry if too much ego is attached to that opinion

#LTHEchat A5 Can we equip everyone with Generative-AI-hype-filters?
April 30, 2025 at 7:48 PM
#LTHEchat A2 Perhaps the biggest gain has been the access to quality resources so that we can concentrate on the dialogue and understanding
April 30, 2025 at 7:32 PM
#LTHEchat A3 Think that the arrival of Powerpont meant the death of the carefully crafted summary handout - too easy just to make the slides available (and probably overload a fair few students in the process).
April 30, 2025 at 7:27 PM
#LTHEchat A1 Non-negotiable for me would be the need to ensure that students understand the assessment rationale and how it relates to what we want them to learn
April 30, 2025 at 7:10 PM
#LTHEchat A5 Suspect that you can only eliminate barriers over time by adopting integrated and inclusive approaches re study skills and demonstrating that they 'work'. And you have to keep doing it.
March 19, 2025 at 8:49 PM
#LTHEchat A5 Isn't there still a strong 'anti-study-skills' sentiment in some areas which mandates that 'proper teaching' is all about the discipline content?
March 19, 2025 at 8:47 PM
#LTHEchat A4 Used to introduce several games/exercises to students to encourage collaboration. some now lost in the mists to time - anyone remember the C Wright Mills exercise?
March 19, 2025 at 8:44 PM
#LTHEchat A2 Educators could offer a simpler assessment scheme in the early stages of the course to give students space to experiment and staff more time to focus on feedback
March 19, 2025 at 8:22 PM
#LTHEchat A2 For students, I often found it was lack of confidence to try new approaches associated with time pressures that discourage experimentation. And staff/the curriculum/the timetable do not provide the space/time to try things out.

#LTHEchat A! My understand is that they are the sum total of strategies and techniques which enable effective study. But the term 'study skills' has always had a negative connotation of 'deficit'. Can we have a new positive name please?
March 19, 2025 at 8:07 PM
#LTHEchat A6 We need to equip them with tools and techniques that enable them to make responsible use (not just ethical - which is often defined too narrowly) of GenAI
March 12, 2025 at 8:57 PM
#LTHEchat A5 Because AI/GenAI is being pushed at us (and all our colleagues and students) so relentlessly then we need to make sure that all our students have a reasonable understanding of what it can and cannot do. And what it is likely to be able to to do next year when the agents come rushing in!
March 12, 2025 at 8:52 PM
#LTHEchat A2 The idea of 'showing your workings' - how you got to the answer you did - is common in some subject areas. Should we now insist on it for every assignment that incorporates GenAI?
March 12, 2025 at 8:22 PM
#LTHEchat A1 Cannot every GenAI tool be used for 'good' or 'bad' in terms of learning? We have to find out why and how the students are using them. Suppose we allow every student to use any tool as long as they explained their rationale and evaluated their outcomes. How would that change our debate?
