Yet again Trump professes to believe a foreign head of state rather than his own intelligence agency.

Reminds me of the joke: A Blairite, a Brownite and a Corbynite walk into a pub. The bartender says, “What’ll you be having Andy?”

The usual sycophantic BBC coverage of the visit is in progress.

Having Googled the incident, my memory could have played tricks. The attack on Eysenck was in 1973 at the LSE, whilst at Sussex there was a sit-in to oppose the visit of US historian Samuel Huntington. Happy days.

I was an undergraduate at the University of Sussex in the early 1970s. When Eysenck visited to give a lecture a fellow student punched him in the face for being a racist. I didn’t approve but I think we’ve known about Burt and Eysenck for a long time.

My academic mentor, sociologist Harry Collins, would say about rejection, ‘It’ll get published somewhere “. I found this encouraging but also good advice. I wrote little that with perseverance didn’t finally appear. Now emeritus, I’m thankful I no longer have to worry about these things.

Why would we (UK) not abandon such a capricious ally? Instead trade with Europe, Commonwealth and BRICS, welcome researchers to our universities, and ditch stuff owned by US oligarchs. But hopefully the US will realise it’s elected your equivalent of Prime Minister Liz Truss, and replace him.
