Ethiopic scholars, anyone want to help me figure out what’s written here? I’m assuming it’s Ge’ez, but I have zero knowledge of this script.

Spent time with a bunch of Kenyan pastors this week at a conference. Learned some are distressed because there’s a growing trend of “men of God” selling redemption á la Johann Tetzel (i.e. telling people if they give a certain amount of money their dead or unsaved loved ones can be redeemed).

Thinking on the task of theology and the Christly imperative to share His sufferings (Mt. 16:24). Theologizing in the absence of suffering is an anomaly, because a disciple without suffering is an anomaly. Perhaps suffering is even a necessary interpretive orientation for the theologian.

An idea I’ve been toying with for a while: a book showing similarities in the use of money by American Christians and the use of traditional power/witchcraft by African Christians. I’d call it something like “Rich Doctor, WitchDoctor”.
