A post from me from the Other Place, showing a picture of a bag of “Twisted Raspberry Twisties” and my caption “The end of Civilisation as we know it.” Follow up post showing the bag is opened and an insipid horror vaguely resembling a Twistie in shape that instead is an anemic, washed out, pink-tinged abomination that is unworthy of the name. Caption: I was weak. I had to know. I took one for the team. And I can confidently report that my original tweet was correct: these are just as horrible as you might have expected. The Twistie is a noble treat that never deserved such disrespect. They should have called them TwistX.

Leucadendron strobilinum (Peninsula Conebush). Firm splayed pale green leaves, surrounding a striking globule yellow flower on its way to turning bright orange. Melaleuca rugulosa (Bottlebrush). Flower made up of scarlet bottlebrushes tipped with white or yellow. Grevillea. Bright red curling flowers and pistils. Grevillea longifolia. Long red pistols with yellow/green tips.

These toilets are either very inclusive or extremely specific.

From @primawesome on The Other Place, 1 Oct 2019: My neighbor told me coyotes keep eating his outdoor cats so I asked how many cats he has and he said he just goes to the shelter and gets a new cat afterwards so I said it sounds like he’s just feeding shelter cats to coyotes and then his daughter started crying.

Jetstar and Qantas providing aspects of customer service I had not anticipated.
A perhaps not entirely accurate iPhone automated transcription of a voicemail message: “Hi my name is Diana I'm calling in from the Qantas reservation centre so I'm just gonna be advised Professor Davis as this called it is being recorded for quality so as per your ticket since Jetstar has cancelled the flight from the end so at the moment we have been modified about the cancellations from Jetstar but unfortunately we have an update on your dick but if you do have any further enquiries in regards to the ticket please feel free to call into the reservation centre Qantas reservation Centre 131313 for any further updates to your ticket thank you so much for taking it out have a wonderful day bye-bye for now...”

I think this is an ornamental pear. Still holding colourful orange autumn leaves, on a cool and rainy May late autumn day. And also flower buds, not supposed to come until September or so. Climate change in action.

Yarra river, Warrandyte. Lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. Morning sun shines through the trees and glints off the river. The river splits here and a fallen log locks off a little calm patch in the foreground, where the water mirrors the sky. This little branch of the river curves back into the main one just downstream. Blinding sun reflects off the main river in the distance through the trees. This part looks calm but there are treacherous snags just below the surface for unwary swimmers or kayakers. Calm water and sudden rapids. Yarra river near Pound Bend, looking east from high on the river bank. No wonder this place attracted Heidelberg School impressionists.
