Lol..just the opposite. If you are a drain on others, why would they want to be with you? On the other hand, if you ask how others are doing and show care, you will have friends.

People are transactional. If others are not better off with you in their lives, you will be discarded. ("Better off" in some way: emotionally, socially, etc.)
