Our kids never threw out a book their entire lives. Therefore we’ve about 25 years worth stored in our loft for both of them. We’ve finally decided to sort

Finding some classics. Fishing with Foster….The legend begins 😂 could change ‘fishing’ for a wide range of things 😂😂😂

Only UK people will understand and also those of a certain age. ‪Still very very proud of all my badges especially the silver. Still have all my letters from Biddy Baxter. The nicest person I’ve ever met in my childhood universe. ‬

As an academic/scientist I might’ve worked on sweet potato diseases for many years. But I’ve still got a lot to learn about growing them outside in the UK. But still not to bad a crop so far 🍠

Tonight’s menu. Just a little something I rattled up the good lady. But she’s worth it.

Always grown Maris Piper. First time ever growing Maris Peer. Looking forward to outcome. 🥔

Anyone out there grown Peer before.

Our homegrown potatoes, leeks and onions are about to be turned into chunky leek & potato soup by my better half. Can highly recommend this recipe 🥣

That’s last 🥔 pot harvested. All from a single pot. Good old reliable Maris Piper. Now time to plant Summer Planting Potatoes (also known as Second Cropping or 'Xmas potatoes') Again grandson Dylan & other half Diana nowhere in sight. They might get sacked as my potato pickers🙃

We’ve had the curtains permanently closed in the house for several days now to try keep the heat out and the house cool in the awful UK heatwave. We’ve just opened the curtains and had a peek to see if the heat has reduced any, and……..

As the UK suffers (and me) in this heatwave I’m reminded what sort of phrases we’d use back in my wee homeland of Norn Iron.

Us Irish melt at these temps 🥵

I chitted all my seed potatoes really early this year and planted them out super early in pots with cloche covers initially. This is the yield from single pot of one of my maincrop 🥔 'Rooster'
A great yield in July when you would normally harvest September to November

We can HIGHLY RECOMMEND you all go and see The Ballad of Wallace Island

Any of my planty followers recognise what this is.

There’ll be a follow up question.

Another day potato picking with the wee man.

The first potatoes were Jazzy salad potatoes that we posted a while back. These latest ones are Rooster main crop. All produced from a seed potato in a pot. 🥔
June 26, 2025 at 7:04 PM
And all grown in pots. Everyone who is not a serious gardener should give it a go. Still loads of starter veg available in garden centres.

Just waiting for the bbq burger 🍔 to go on top of the cheese and onion. Everything home grown in pots. Yum 😋

Early onions and salad potatoes harvested today. 🧅 🥔
June 13, 2025 at 3:02 PM
I can highly recommend it if you have only a small garden or even just a flat terrace. Shown below is the yield of salad potatoes from just one seed potato planted in one small specialised potato pot.

Great night in my wee home town in Norn Iron with a few school friends from the 60’s.

Yes - you read that correctly- friends since 1969!

As Van Morrison would say….

Wouldn't it be great if it was like this all the time.
