Gentrification is so violent.

It's an important part of Black American history people should know about. Now it's being bulldozed and made into "mixed income" housing... That no former residents will be able to afford.

Bad actors, shitty deals, selfish board members, HUD, and local government let it crumble despite our best efforts to save it. This has been incredibly traumatic for my family. I hate it.

Residents got really close and became friends. Then their kids became friends, and so on and so on. 4-6 generations of families that have lived together the entire time. It was beautiful. We celebrated great moments together and mourned losses together. We fed each other. No one went without.

My grandfather was part of the construction crew that built it. My family was one of the first to move in. He then became the first handyman. Once residents made it a co-op my grandma was board president or treasurer.

This is for me, my mother, my sister, and my nephews. We're all being forced out at the same time. It's a fucking nightmare. Y'all's support has made this easier. Thank you so so much!
