Thank you, it's my privilege to be able to do it. We talk about this in the paper at length, but the root of it is a populist, anti-elite sentiment against coastal/urban/cosmopolitan elites of both parties who they think look down on them for not being those things. Race, immigration, religion...

@petesikora.bsky.social I was just chatting with a union friend who is dealing with a similar dynamic among the rank and file - Trump voters who are now losing work & jobs. Most voters don't know about (maybe don't care about?) actual policy, so it's kind of no surprise that people get surprised.
