Off to the 2025 SACNAS conference in Columbus, OH. I’m excited to attend & it’s also bittersweet given attendance is down to 2000 compared to 6000 last year, no federal agencies will be present & Ohio State backed out of being local host. Regardless our UW team will make the most of our time there.

Last week the drone pilots in my lab captured this image (photo 1) of a large sea lion haul out @ San Carlos Beach in Monterey during our monthly surveys. Last year (photo 2) a large sea lion haul out was seen at the same beach. This might be turning into a new haul out site. @uwsafs.bsky.social

Flew into L.A. yesterday as part of a long planned trip home. My flight went over Downtown L.A. You can see the city is not ablaze or overrun with violent protesters. Pease verify suspect stories about L.A. The last image shows where reporters have been relative to the extent of the L.A. metroplex.
Downtown Los Angeles where the media coverage has been centered. No fires or large groups of violent protesters terrorizing the area. More of the greater L.A. Metroplex. Still o massive scenes of destruction. SoFi stadium. No signs of a disturbance here. Map showing where news coverage has been (red circle) relative to the rest of the L.A. Metroplex.
