Neuromuscular electrical stimulation for the post-stroke upper limb can reduce spasticity and muscle atrophy, and improve joint range and corticospinal system excitability. It's recommended in UK National Guidelines but not provided by NHS - why do patients have to buy their own £120 device?

It's great that stroke recovery is getting in the news www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... It does speak to our need to believe in the 'new' though. VNS targets those who should respond well to intensive standard movement training anyway. The science should maybe focus on those without finger movement?
