Agreed. It’s even leaking into places like Daily Kos, where the community posts have become more and more garbage lately

To add to this I find the performative hatred of Liz Cheney comical. She could very well be wrongfully imprisoned or even killed by a MAGA loon for standing up to Trump. Choosing country over party should be celebrated. I respect her way more than the losers who fetishize abstaining from voting

Continued: Pooled houses with a flat service charge is one means of pulling this off in the US. A restaurant in NYC that my friend (a Chef in France) recently did a pop up for uses this strategy and it’s smarter in my opinion.

I think many, or most even, agree on just paying a higher wage. But my interest in that would be so that people like cooks get paid better. It is insane to me as a former server that I (and just about every other server) made more than all the cooks, and usually as much or more than the sous chefs.
March 14, 2025 at 2:37 PM
I also suspect you have never worked in a restaurant
March 13, 2025 at 7:53 PM
Restaurants typically never have to pay out the difference, because their servers almost always exceed it.

What you’re referring to as confirmation bias, is actually just years and years of working in restaurants, in many of the most pricy regions, and knowing industry people all over the country.

I’ve pushed 40 or 50 an hour at several. I worked one where I made that in lunch shifts
March 13, 2025 at 7:46 PM
Most servers make more than $15-20 an hour. If you want to make an exception of for those making less because they work at like a Chilis, then sure. But 15-20 is the floor of what servers usually make at a restaurant, after tipout.
March 13, 2025 at 3:07 PM
I always made sure my team mates got their fair share of the tipout, and I was still taking home $4,000 to $6,000 a month.
March 13, 2025 at 3:00 PM
Completely agreed. I’m not sure how the logic took off. Most servers I knew would not only hide their tax dollars, but would under report their cash so that they didn’t have to tip out the bussers and food runners who were working just as hard as they were

Continued: when I reflect on the “demands” the protesters put up, which largely center around a ludicrous “one-state solution,” then it seems to me that either by outside interference or social media algorithms making fringe views popular, the movement settled on a self-defeating narrative
February 5, 2025 at 6:19 PM
I blame social media. I went to a few ceasefire protests in 2023, but when I fact checked (because duh) the narratives being spread it became pretty clear they were dredged up Sunni nationalist pseudohistories. The same kind that still justify the murder of millions of Greeks, Armenians, and Syrians

Sounds like we need some “I did that” stickers

Is it near a Cheesecake at least?

Sounds like you should come back to the Northeast :)

I see efforts now to up the left’s social media game, but one sad thing is that Biden promised to be a president who spent his time working and not tweeting. And he fulfilled that promise. But Americans, including many on our side of the aisle, have shown they like social media presidents. Yuck
January 2, 2025 at 10:35 PM
Tough. I think the problem with the “choose your own reality” social media trend is that it rewards edgy takes. So a lot of young or impressionable people who mean well vent their frustrations by spreading BS like Biden being “anti-union” as it gets fed to them.

I’ve encountered this too, with people getting mad that I don’t consider a place with decent street food but lacking a passionate chef culture a “foodie city”. Not that I don’t love street food, it is also a key component in a foodie town. But really good cuisine is an art

I think a guy who cared would notice. That was a very sweet gesture

I am consistently underwhelmed by these people who only speak up when their group is threatened. It sounds like he had no problem with other people being pushed down. Maybe show a lil solidarity next time
