In the Instagram app:

➡️ Messages → Map → ⚙️ Settings → “No one”

Then go one step further:

🍏 iOS: Settings → Privacy → Location Services → Instagram → “Never”
🤖 Android: Settings → Location → App permissions → Instagram → “Deny”
