The most recent attention on abuse enabling amongst professors reminds me of many things, but this in particular right now: #seattleuniversity

I was a panelist for a continuing legal education program. I discussed the shit show of my lived experiences plus substantive legal things. Other folks are brought the Title 9, immigration, and criminal law perspective.

This was already bizarrely unprofessional enough of a situation from them, but then I received a message request on Instagram. When I checked, it appears as if the message was unsent. What was sent that was later regretted?

Remember, #YWCAseattle is who initially signed itself up as a panelist for an event to teach “concrete ways to intervene, mitigate, and restore a survivor’s reputation…”. Yet when I called them to do just that, they were angrily dismissive of any responsibility on their part.

And this was my response to their horrifying and vicious blow up at me:

I still wanted to discuss accountability with #YWCAseattle since they did not actually attend the event, so rather than emailing administrators again, I made a call to a program coordinator who deals directly with domestic violence. This is how that played out.

I had already attempted to discuss the situation with administrators at #YWCAseattle but was given the run-around and ultimately no answers. So I posed this question at an event about restoring the reputations of criminalized survivors, which #YWCAseattle had signed up for

It’s deeply sad and disturbing that #YWCAseattle aggressively refuses to take accountability for this letter that my abuser provided to DV court against me.

My statement was quoted during the sentencing hearing against #RedWolfPope in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My words were framed as describing basis of why he must be held accountable.
