Shows what many in the North have always felt: our voices betray us before our ideas are heard. Post-industrial, working-class, higher poverty, often left behind - deficit not identity.

What cuts deepest is not surprise but recognition. We are under no illusions. We know how we are seen.

This year I’ve lived in the margins of others’ work: Willingham, Sweller, Chi, Counsell, Hirsch, Myatt, Sealy, Ritchhart, Cremin (and more).

They rarely align neatly. I needed a way to hold them together in my own head - not to claim the last word, just to orient myself.

Humanities so often miss out in CPD because compliance (safeguarding, SEND) and core subjects absorb the oxygen.

But when history, geography & RE are undernourished, pupils lose breadth, cultural capital and intellectual curiosity.

Narrow CPD = narrowing minds.

Immigration outrage is high-yield: clicks, sales, loyal anxious audiences.

A few billionaires shape the headlines.

Easier to scapegoat migrants than face housing, health & wage crises.

Look over here…not at the true injustice.

These four books are absolutely essential. I can't stress enough how important these have been to fundamentally shifting who I am as a teacher and a leader...

Thank you to @marymyatt.bsky.social @suchmo83.bsky.social #MichaelChiles & @pepsmccrea.bsky.social for investing such time into these.

I would be absolutely delighted if you could follow @primarythink.bsky.social

It's intended to be a space for research-led thinking on curriculum, pedagogy and policy in primary education.

Sincere, rigorous, and rooted in the real work.

Went to Beamish today. Took this. Made it moody. It's my new favourite thing.

"Healthy fear" in schools fosters a culture where authority hinges on intimidation, not respect. Fear, even when deemed "healthy," erodes trust, stifles curiosity, and undermines meaningful relationships. Pupils thrive on mutual respect, not compliance born of apprehension.

Absolutely love a late autumn walk in a cemetery. Is that weird?

Love images like this, Claire. Gnarled and seemingly "ancient" trees that seem inextricably tied to the history and the tales of a place.

Thanks, Ed. That's very kind of you to say so and I'm very much beginning to develop a healthier relationship with it now. I'm reading a book right now that describes it in that way...a gift.

In the heart of the neon-lit city, the Flangecircus appeared overnight, shrouded in mist and whispers. The Detective stood at its gates, drawn by the eerie silence and the promise of secrets hidden within. The air crackled with anticipation as she stepped into the unknown...

It'll be one of these three. I absolutely love each one and they've always been well received whenever I've read them. Always want our class novels to be books that have that cliffhanger chapter end and the electric buzz of anticipation for the next installment.

Just pure shared love for a book.
