Well, the two times he was called John it was in Swedish, so he mightn't have caught that, and when he was called David the speaker immediately caught himself and corrected to Adam so it wasn't as bad as it could've been but it was a bit odd.

Do you mean the hålkälstegel (I'm afraid I haven't got a clue what they might be called in English)? It's actually not meant to look like that originally; the indentation is meant to be filled with mortar giving the wall a somewhat roman feel with thin bricks and wide horizontal joints.

It came out this summer, so entirely new. And I'm afraid I haven't got a single book on Malmö, bar this one and a very brief architectural guide, so am not the right person to ask.
