Reading this poem — with its imagery of circling raptors — while the helicopters outside feel louder and closer, and relating so hard to what it takes to summon bravery.

I’ve never noticed it before this summer, but I keep seeing flowers that try to bloom in place instead of branching. We call them “Annihilation flowers” after the VanderMeer book/movie, but I’m curious why it seems more common this year?
