A privilege of working where I do is the ability to participate in or observe these moments. Honored to play a small part as the United States wishes President Carter fair winds and following seas.

Some new coworkers asked about the ceremonial swearing-in that the Speaker does for Members on Opening Day. How about this gem? I was a college senior. Tim Ryan was sworn into the 108th Congress as a freshman. My dad, on my right, was his first press secretary. Tim was gracious to include us.

On this Pearl Harbor Day, pausing to remember Honolulu Fire Department Captain John Carreira, Captain Thomas S. Macy, and Hoseman Harry T.L. Pang, killed when a Japanese bomb was dropped on them as they fought the fires at Hickam Field. In 1944, these civilians received the Purple Heart.

Ripping off @mikejason.bsky.social, government is for serious people. How you get people to believe that is the challenge. Involve them more in governing. More straight news about government impacts. Talk more about successes than failures. Not sure our media landscape is set up for that though.

Happy Evacuation Day, everybody! A series of 13 toasts were raised by George Washington and those assembled on November 25, 1783, as the British left New York City. Let's remember the final one: "May the Remembrance of THIS DAY be a Lesson to Princes."

Bottom line: Tell the elites to fuck off.

The New York Times has Sean Duffy as travel secretary, which I think is the same job George Costanza had for the New York Yankees.

It was a cloudy day on Capitol Hill today. Also, they finished the stone restoration on the Capitol. You can see the different colors in the two wings very clearly now.

Just enjoying a cocktail by the pool under an umbrella. It’s definitely not a rain umbrella. I’m definitely not wearing a sweatshirt.

I asked my daughter if she was dressed like the character Tum Tum from the movie “3 Ninjas.” “No dad, but he is my favorite character. You know, in the second movie [3 Ninjas Kick Back], he was the only one that still wanted to be a ninja. The other two had really moved on with their lives.” 😂
