A bit of a detour from my usual content-but this was too good not to share. Our Amazon Wedding Registry has been unreal. 10/10 would recommend.

What’s the most overrated “med student essential”?

🐼💸 This panda just found out why his patient didn’t come in sooner, they were already $8,000 in medical debt. Medical debt is the #1 cause of bankruptcy in America. Families skip care, delay treatment, and live in fear of the next bill.
But there’s hope.

Medicare’s COVID-era telehealth flexibilities expired on Sept 30, 2025 creating confusion and new barriers to care.
That means:
🚫 Patients with chronic illnesses may need to drive hours for appointments.
💻 Small rural clinics could lose funding without telehealth visits.

Prior Authorization was designed to reduce unnecessary care but in practice, it often delays urgent treatment and exhausts both patients and providers.

You’ve likely experienced it if:
📌 Your prescription was denied, even though your doctor approved it
📌 Your MRI got postponed for “review”

Insurance systems sometimes feel like obstacle courses disguised as “coverage.” Long phone calls. Confusing plan details. Endless paperwork. Denials that make no sense & patients aren’t the only ones stuck; providers spend hours fighting the same maze.
This is why understanding health policy matters

Some kids ask Santa for toys. Others ask for something no child should ever have to worry about: healthcare.
The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) helps cover care for millions of kids in working families, from vaccines and prescriptions to dental and vision.

🎄 “So… what do YOU think about healthcare?”
Ah yes, the annual holiday debate no one asked for.

Here’s how to survive holiday healthcare convos without turning dinner into a debate stage:
✅ Lead with evidence, not ego
✅ Stay curious, not confrontational
✅ Center patients, not parties

In the U.S., prescription drugs cost nearly 2.8× more than in other developed countries, driven by complex pricing systems, pharmacy benefit managers, and limited transparency. For many families, that means choosing between a refill or the electric bill.

Being nervous during the med school application process isn’t a “you” problem. It’s a math problem.

📉 51,423 applicants to U.S. MD schools last cycle.
✅ Only 22,262 matriculated.
That’s around a 43% acceptance rate and much lower at individual schools.

The data explains the fear.

Such a good question, I used to work out at night in high school but now I have to do it in the morning or I won’t have the energy! 👀
A reader asked: "I’ve heard that I should avoid working out before bed, since it might make it harder to fall asleep. But right now, the only free time I have to exercise is in the evening. Should my treadmill really be off-limits after 7 p.m.?"
Is It a Bad Idea to Exercise Before Bed?
Here’s how a nighttime workout can affect your sleep.

What's the most underrated topic that deserves more love in your major?

Why your first internship matters:
 – Teaches you what you like
 – Builds professional confidence
 – Gives future recommenders context
 – Helps you figure out what kind of leader you want to be
School taught me the theory.
 Internships taught me the strategy.
 – How people communicate
 – How teams actually get things done
 – What I bring to the table
 Experience > perfection.

Don’t let a headline do all the thinking for you. 🧠
You can literally search the study name and check for yourself if it’s:
– Peer-reviewed
– Statistically sound
– Funded by someone who benefits from the outcome 👀

Science isn’t gatekept anymore.

Just learned in Google Sheets, you can make it so that when you tick a checkbox, the entire row lights up like magic.

Go to Format → Conditional formatting.

Under "Format rules", pick "Custom formula is"

Enter this formula (assuming your checkboxes are in column A): =$A2=TRUE

Choose your color.

 I don’t.
I make ChatGPT explain it like a fantasy world. 🏰
 Immune system? Castle defense.
 T cells? Knights.
 Antibodies? Flying arrows.
 Macrophages? Gatekeepers.
