Does the Slate even come with the bits required to make the connected spying stuff works? They make it seem like it barely comes with the stuff it needs to be road legal

Silverblue and Kinoite don't have any weird bells, whistles or gamer-catering. It's just a desktop that quietly and invisibly updates itself in the background and doesn't let you break the system directory. You can still install whatever apps and use it as "your computer."

I would actually recommend something more user friendly like Fedora Silverblue / Kinoite, or even Bazzite! Image based desktops are super user friendly, and difficult for the tech illiterate to break :)
