Happy Sun Day, everyone! Take a few moments to celebrate the warmth of the sun in your life, how it sheds light and energy to all on Earth.

Bill McKibben: “Texas is now installing renewable energy and batteries faster than California; in a single week in March, it set records for solar and wind production as well as for battery discharge.”

Bill McKibben: “Whole economies are now relying on solar. California was powered by 100% clean energy for more than 100 days this year, and solar was the biggest source of energy in the EU last month.”

Bill McKibben: “People are now putting up a gigawatt’s worth of solar panels, the rough equivalent of the power generated by one coal-fired plant, every fifteen hours. Solar power is now growing faster than any power source in history, and it is closely followed by wind power.”

“It took from the invention of the photovoltaic solar cell, in 1954, until 2022 for the world to install a terawatt of solar power; the second terawatt came just two years later, and the third will arrive either later this year or early next.” Bill McKibben

“No one hoards energy from the sun and wind; billionaires and fossil fuels executives can’t hold it in ‘reserves.’ It’s energy for everywhere and everyone.”

“It's time for all of us who know that windmills don't cause cancer and that not all energy comes from deep underground, to stand together with our kids and grandkids on Sun Day to stop the mind-numbing rhetoric and jumpstart our clean energy transition.”
Former EPA administrator Gina McCarthy

"We now live on a planet where the cheapest way to produce energy is to point a sheet of glass at the sun. This isn't 'alternative energy' anymore--it's the common sense obvious path." -Bill McKibben

“From the moment Earth first coalesced out of cosmic dust 4.5 billion years ago, one star has been our unbroken companion: the Sun. It has bathed our world in warmth, painted skies with dawns and sunsets, and sustained every breath we take.”

"We really could get it right — we have the clean energy technology we need, and what we need now is the human energy to make it happen despite the obstruction of Big Oil. That's what Sun Day is about, harnessing photons to power our lives."

Dr. Kate Marvel, Climate Scientist: On a planet that receives more power from the sun in a single hour than the whole of humanity collectively consumes in a year, fossil fuels are not inevitable.

Wind defines my Great Plains. Prairie birds fly better if they launch themselves into a headwind. Metaphorically, events in our lives become our wind. Right now, we are bombarded by an incessant gale of insanity. I need to face the wind and take a stand.
No Kings. I will be there.

Today in small town Ark City, Kansas—deep red country—I joined 75 protesters for the “Hands Off” day of action at a busy downtown corner. A north wind gusting to 40 mph and temperatures that felt like 15 degrees testified to our determination to make a statement. Proud to be part of this.

On Valentines Day in 1990, the Voyager I spaceship took this photo of Earth as it hurtled away through space. All of us as well as all the other life forms we have ever encountered exist on this tiny dot! May we find the strength, love, and courage to defend our planet from any threats.

Proud to be part of the march in Topeka, Kansas yesterday, 2/5/25, one Kansas grandmother among hundreds of concerned Kansans!

Our systems produced a total of 283.3 kWh last month, 155.8 via solar and 127.5 via wind, during an extremely harsh January. My best estimate on charges for my plug-in hybrid were 153.7 kWh. We covered all the charges for the vehicle, and had some leftover. Driving on sun power. :-)

"Out of the Mountain of Despair, a Stone of Hope" from the MLK monument in Washington, DC. Cling to the best of our world to resist that despair.
