Gardening for wildlife support in Central Texas. Mostly using native species but also with a fondness for English roses & Japanese formality.
Large-flowered pink sorrel. This is a new and very welcome volunteer 🍀🌸🌱

It’s growing in my native grass no-mow lawn which consists mostly of buffalo grass & blue grama.

A catbird flew into the window today. Put it in a hatbox for a while until it was out of shock and then let it recover in the garden. It hid in a shrub for a while and eventually flew off.

A prairie skink on my compost heap. I keep it covered with an old tarp — good nesting spot for reptiles! I’m hoping for baby skinks 🌱

Two clematis that are finally starting to look vigorous & bloom after planting a few years ago. I think the red one is Nubia & the pink is Piilu. 🌱#bloomscrolling

I gave this clematis (Jackmani) a try planted in a pot alongside a muscadine with not all that much Hope it would hold its own but so far it’s doing well 🌱 #bloomscrolling

Definitely not a rose made for cutting but I had to prune a low-lying branch from my Strawberry Hill climbing rose so stuck the blooms in a vase. 🌱 #bloomscrolling

I found a little frog repeatedly in a large plant pot sheltering in the wet soil. I have the top of the pot covered with a towel to stop it drying out in the intense heat & I keep removing the frog as I’m worried that it might get trapped in there and bake if it dries out & gets too hot in there.
