November garden. The roses wish they could flower; an annual salvia that endured several hard frosts; and a ladybug sunning itself on a brick.

I like calendula. There are many varieties, they keep flowering (with some deadheading) and the seeds are easy to collect.

The ladybugs in my garden play a vital role in keeping pests under control. I found a few munching on some aphids. I had hoped the European paper wasp might snatch some up, but it seemed more interested in the sweet aphid dew.

I highly recommend growing Agastache (Anise Hyssop). It's an absolute bee magnet, puts on a long beautiful show, and has both interesting smell and taste (in the mint family).

My camera broke last week :-(
But on the plus side, it rained heavily this afternoon. I collected as much I could.

A juvenile American red start has been visiting my yard for the past few days. First time seeing one in my yard. They were very curious about me and everything else in the garden. Love the eyebrows #Manitoba #birds #birding #photography

Chipping sparrow. I have a feeling they nest nearby annually. Each year it seems they acclimatize more easily to my presence in the garden.

Every year I enjoy seeing all the migratory sparrows stop by my yard. The Harris' Sparrow was always my least photographed species until today. Wow, this little guy was as curious about me as I was about him. I love their little black hood.
