✅ Why is this a good book to read?
Aside from winning 14 awards, it's important to both see oneself reflected in a work and to read about the experiences of those who are different from oneself.

🚫 Why is this a banned book?
As far as I can find, this book has been banned in Florida, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, and Texas due to "its depictions of homosexuality and references to drugs and sex."

FEATURE-LGBTQ+ authors hit back as US school book bans pick up
When Maia Kobabe proudly put the finishing touches to the graphic novel "Gender Queer" in 2019, the American author had no idea of the storm that lay ahead.

That's cool you guys take turns choosing. We switch each month between newer banned books and older ones, so there's a good range; we're a small group so we just decide together. One time we couldn't decide so I used an online wheel picker, haha.

My partner and I send each other pics of our cats from across the house. =P

Ooh, we read The Bluest Eye last year in my banned book club; the themes/topics were difficult but the writing was beautiful! That's really what got me through. That was my first time reading Toni Morrison, but hopefully not my last.

I'm still trying to figure things out, but definitely #booksky. There are other variations of that, as well, like #bannedbooksky and #diversebooksky. I think. If my memory is functioning; I might just be making them up. =P

I'm trying to figure things out. Seems like there isn't an option to follow a hashtag unless someone has created a "feed" for it...? 🤷‍♀️ I'm fumbling my way through, much as I did playing video games as a child, wildly hitting all the buttons and accidentally stumbling upon a special move. 😂

Last year I reread this for the first time since childhood - I definitely understood it better now, having a bit more history knowledge, haha.

We rarely receive more than a light dusting, but last week we also had some adorable little footprints in the snow - almost certainly from squirrels, as we have a number of locals and they've been nibbling away at our fall pumpkins. =P

Ooh, pretty! =D So you're an aquatic ecologist? That's super cool! Does that mean you know lots about dragonflies, turtles, & other water critters? And/or water plants? We have two ponds here but it can be difficult to find folks who specialize in those ecosystems to learn from & answer questions.
