Back when I was living in the tri-state area, McGreevey was a real up-and-comer, like a ‘boy wonder’ type. He became America’s first openly gay governor but later had to resign owing to scandals. It’s rare to see redemptive political comeback attempts more than 20 years later.

These are some pictures I took in 2020 from the Trans-Canada Highway on the north shore of Superior looking toward where the Edmund Fitzgerald went down 20 or so miles away.

This map shows the course of the doomed freighter when it went down in November 1975. The northern coast of Lake Superior is a beautiful, rugged and remote region.
