One thing I know for certain: it's not just wait three years and we can go back to the way it was. The America of 2016 is gone. It wasn't all that great to begin with. The America of 2024 is CERTAINLY gone. I don't know what comes next.

The thing I'm not sure about is the timeline: years? Decades? Something will come after Trump. And then something after that. And then, maybe, Balkanization. Hopefully I'm dead by then.

It almost feels like everything is getting compared against the LAPD's utter acquiescence to authoritarianism, so just because there aren't Chicago cops shooting journalists with rubber bullets, they're seen as "siding with the people." But perhaps I'm missing something more?

But how do we reconcile that with the fact that it is so much, much... much worse for people directly and physically affected by what's going on? At what point is "self-care" complicity? I struggle with that question every day now.
