We unequivocally oppose the use of violence & intimidation on campus. At the same time, when legitimate political protest has been recklessly mischaracterized as support for terrorism, deporting and arresting green card holders over alleged "support" of Hamas is too broad to be the basis of policy. It raises concerns about due process and lessens credibility of all anti-terrorism efforts. Authoritarian federal overreach and apparent disregard for due process only make Jews less safe. We refuse to have our concerns and fears over antisemitism weaponized to undermine pluralistic democracy. The Jewish community's legitimate concerns about rising antisemitism deserve urgent attention, not exploitation as a smokescreen for power grabs that undermine the very framework designed to protect vulnerable populations.

IMPLICATIONS: • In total, to date, the GH Bureau has identified 72 actitivies that entail Lifesaving Humanitarian Assistance, not including bilateral awards with LHA waiver requests. To date, none of these activities have been approved by the Agency FO and no payments have been released, fully preventing their implementation. • All or nearly all of the awards needed to implement lifesaving humanitarian assistance were terminated on or before February 27th, rendering impossible any efforts to implement activities under the waiver, even if they had been approved. • The number of deaths attributable to the loss of USAID funding and support is not known at this time.

Public health authorities say they aren't seeing evidence that the new variants cause more severe disease of unusually sharp rises in hospitalizations and ER visits. But there are two ways of looking at the consequences of a wave: The societal risk and the individual risk. On an individual basis, the virus is becoming less threatening because we have more immunity. But when so many people are getting sick at once, it's more difficult for vulnerable people who are not as well protected by vaccines and past infections to dodge the virus. So we will see deaths and hospitalizations still rise, even if it's not to the degree we saw in earlier waves.
