1 of 3 Spotted Flycatchers seen today, pausing to feed on their journey south.
Their broad bill bases (2nd pic) help to catch flying insects.

A Southern Hawker allowed a close approach this morning.
A male, its slightly muted colours presumably due to it not being quite mature (?).

The stunning breeding plumage female Grey (Red) Phalarope at Spiggie, Shetland, this afternoon. What an incredible looking bird! Not often seen looking like this in the UK. My only other sighting was about a decade ago at Brandon Marsh, Warks! #Phalarope #Waders #Wildlife #UkBirding

Can anyone give me a second opinion on this female damselfly please? Variable??
The 2nd pic is a close crop of the first.
The pale bar between the eyes is given as a distinction from Azure in Smallshire and Swash.
The rear of the pronotum appears to be to be tri-lobed.
Thank you

Easier to spot than photograph, many of the local Cuckooflowers now have an Orange-tip Butterfly egg on them.
Pale at first, the eggs turn orange and should hatch in about a week.
