2/2 How to make a spring whistle: cut a length of poplar or green willow. Tap the bark all over to loosen it & slip off the bark in 1 piece. Shape the whistle; slide the bark back on. Whistle plays as long as it stays moist.

Thanks for posting these! At least in the 21st century, computers mean that even male academics I knew did their own typing. (Blast it: I now have multiple Ask a Manager tabs open; that site sucks me in.)
