It's fall, or, as I like to call it, gingko season
A large gingko tree in late afternoon light. Many of the leaves are a hue of yellow that no native trees display, or yellow on the edges and green still towards the center. Its posture and presentation is upright but also weeping at the ends of the long branches. It's next to a road, with a neon crosswalk sign in front of it and a watch repair shop behind it. Whoever planted this tree did so when gingko was not widely common in North America, and the respect it has been treated with, to be given its own lot to thrive on the side of a thoroughfare is a testament to the vision and ideals of its caretakers.

Robert Earl Keen's "A Bigger Piece of Sky" has haunted me most of my life. He covered one of my favorites, Terry Allen, so I bought the CD and it stayed in my car for over a decade. Sounds good like this today
