Maybe it’s because I know very little about defense/hitting, but I probably woulda felt the same if they protected either, so if this can keep them both in the org I’m all for it.

I think this is right. Reactionary centrists want an endless stream of Sista Souljah moments, a Democratic party that denounces and scolds its own base until the annoying language goes away.
Not only is this impossible, it is electoral suicide!
Good thread and I think makes clear the only plausible reading of this doc is not “language dem candidates shouldn’t use” it’s “language dem candidates should publicly yell at their base for (hypothetically?) using so they look cool to imagined centrist voters and savvy politicos”
I actually agree that Democrats should refrain from using most of these. And they already do! When was the last time a Senator said 'heteronormative'?
The bigger problem is that orgs like Third Way are reinforcing this false, right-wing narrative. Dems can't stop doing something they're not doing!

Tom’s point is that they made this a core part of their messaging, and then posts a document like this, which completely contradicts his point. Amazing stuff lol

"Democrats can't stop saying this thing they said exactly once, four years ago."
