The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett are wonderful and funny fantasy. I recommend Mort and Small Gods to start. They have recurring characters but they are all kind of stand-alone when it comes to the story.

Go into your new tv’s settings and disable whatever ‘smooth motion’ is enabled by default (you may have to google your specific model to find what it’s called and where to find it)
Newer 4k TVs have some kind of frame interpolation that adds extra frames and makes everything look plastic-y.
