I'm an academic in Information Sciences, background in computational astrophysics. I tend to post about academic stuff, open source, politics, tabletop roleplaying games, MS-DOS and occasionally the 1975 Joe Don Baker movie "Mitchell."
Happy Stitch day! (6/26) I'm sorry I missed Reuben day yesterday, so I am including a picture of the li'l stinker here to make up for it.

This week I learned that ChooseCo is now using network graphs to illustrate the possible paths through CYOA books. I used to show viz of these in Data Storytelling, but now they're just on the darn back covers!

This is House of Danger.

The animation is *tantalizingly* familiar, and you can see the captions at the bottom. Not sure I can quite nail down which simulation/viz it is, but I bet someone out there recognizes them off hand...

Running another Purple Planet game in a week and I decided to hack up a little web app for the rune plates to draw the players in a bit more and make it more tactile. Still some bugs with catching mouse motion, but it's fun! LOVING the setting, @harley-stroh.bsky.social & @goodmangames.bsky.social !

Sort of on that topic, Google announced an AI video generation system. A student generated a video of himself, me, and a research scientist explaining a project.

I believe I'm supposed to be the one with an empty lanyard, constantly talking over the woman.

(Also: looks awfully green-screened.)

This is absolutely beautiful. What awesome work. And it really strikingly reminds me of a colormap I use a lot for work, "arbre": raw.githubusercontent.com/yt-project/c...
