The MMNHWG Report is critical. Over 1/4 of all missing girls in Hawaiʻi are Native Hawaiian, despite being only ~10% of the population.

Adding salt to the wound, 43% of HI sex trafficking cases involve Kānaka Maoli girls. (3/4)

This is a crisis of jurisdiction, data failure, and systemic violence.

The data challenges are severe. In 2016, a federal database only logged 116 missing cases when over 5,700 were reported by NCIC. This systemic failure obscures thousands of lives every year. (2/4)

(2) this number has only increased as many more kānaka have been priced out of paradise. As indigenous people of the United States, we’ve fought for our recognition despite being victims of colonization. While this does not affect executive orders enacted by previous admins, this is a huge step ⬅️
