A self-taught, post-capitalist, catholic eremite who tries to see the good in most things and people. It’s not always easy, but worth the try. If you give in to hate, evil wins. Anti-fascist to the core.
St.-Josephs-Kirche stands proudly on the vibrant street of Große Freiheit in Hamburg's St. Pauli (red-light) district. Originally built between 1718 and 1723, it is still fondly used by locals, reflecting its enduring significance in the community.

For Americans born in 1946, the life expectancy at birth was approximately 72.7 years for males and 79.4 years for females.

Everything comes to an end.

Wars.

Dictatorships.

Empires.

Presidencies.

One day, like McCarthyism, the #MAGA cult will be but a distant memory.

It could have been worse.

Yes, #Putin walked all over #tRump. Yes, it was an outright PR victory for the Russians. No doubt about that.

BUT — at least it wasn’t a Munich, 1938. And that must be a relief for the Ukrainians. As difficult and tragic and as the continuation of the war is.

I’d come to a point, where I’d resigned myself to the fact that until January 2029, the most inept, corrupt and moronic #POTUS in recent history will just have to be endured. Hey, it’s great for late night TV and cartoonists. But I must admit: I really miss professionalism.

Palestine was ruled by Britain from 1922 to 1948. #Israel came into being in 1948; a parallel state of Palestine did not.Yet the State of Palestine is recognised by 147 of the UN's 193 members. In other words: 76% of the #UN recognise #Palestine. But what is the solution for people on the ground ?

Woe to mankind, woe to our German nation if God's Holy Commandment 'Thou shalt not kill,'…is not only broken, but if this transgression is actually tolerated and permitted to go unpunished.

“Oh you’re the ones who want to take everything away from people”.

The short answer: Nope.

A post-capitalist society doesn’t seek to deprive people of their personal possessions, but rather seek liberation from the stress and exploitation that come with chasing more than we truly need.

A 10% drop in international tourism this year is estimated to cost the U.S. $23 billion in GDP and 230,000 jobs.

Let that sink in.

That’s 23,000,000,000 dollars and a nearly a quarter of a million jobs.

And yes, my heart goes out to all the decent, hard working Americans in the tourism industry.

One day, the nightmare that has befallen the USA will end. Nothing last lasts forever. The Assad dictatorship lasted 53 yrs; the Third Reich a mere 12. When that day comes, artists, cartoonists, writers, etc., deserve a collective THANK YOU for so brilliantly illustrating these challenging times.

OK, and now for something really off the wall…or “out of the sea”.

A fossilised sponge.

The oldest sponges were thought to be about 520m years old, from the Cambrian period, however some can be as old as 650m years.

I don’t live in Germany but if I did, I’d heartened by the likes of @heidireichinnek.dielinkebt.de, who has very effectively demonstrated that leftist values can be communicated in a manner that is effective, meaningful, and, occasionally, wildly entertaining.

Any capitalist . . .who had made sixty thousand pounds out of sixpence, always professed to wonder why the sixty thousand nearest Hands didn't each make sixty thousand pounds out of sixpence, and more or less reproached them every one for not accomplishing the little feat…

My grandfather was a Marxist and a member of Die Rote Kapelle (The Red Orchestra), a German anti-Nazi resistance group during World War II. His cover, like that of many Rote Kapelle members, was his military service. He survived the war and remained a lifelong Marxist and anti-fascist.

The future I hope for has no parallel in history. Past regimes that claimed to be “communist”—such as the USSR—were authoritarian states that suppressed their people. What I advocate is something different: a system rooted in community, cooperation, sustainability and democratic participation.

In 2001, I met a couple of literature professors from the U.S., who also happened to be genuinely thoughtful, committed American Marxists. It was they who introduced me to the writings of Marx and several progressive American writers. From that point on, I began exploring Marxist philosophy.
