A speaker in opposition to the budget says she found it disturbing to see up to 6 police officers surrounding one homeless man at a grocery store.

306: Jean Swanson. Opposed this report. Former city councillor who made responsible decisions. Last year it listed increases and decreases. ACCS had 14 pages. This year one LINE. Are cuts to homelessness services? Engineering- will curb cuts take longer? Tree canopy? Council support? Does this mean

However it is quite a slap in the face to all those killed by police, an act of deep disrespect for life, and full of derision for disabled people in particular. I could have chosen to talk about so many other things but the stakes really are that high, have always been that high.

Chantelle Spicer, speaker 2, poverty reduction coalition. This will deepen economic divide. This should be about our values and priorities. This budget is about short term optics. Calls to not increase police budget which makes poverty worse. No correlation between increased funding +public safety.

219: kit’s resident. Opposes as it stands. Hopes we can send it back for review. Live within our means? Police don’t have to. Staggering problem is police increase alone is bigger than entire arts budget. 250k of cost per person. It has to be looked at. Crime severity index shows crime down.
