The power went out and I assumed we’d been attacked either by Trumpian traitors or China but then I saw the planes were still taking off flying over our house. A local problem then but I realize it’s the only power we have anymore and THEY sell it to us.

It depends on the wasp. Some use the ovipositor just to lay eggs, some use it to paralyze prey & lay eggs, some use it to sting defensively and lay eggs. There are literally hundreds of thousands of species and they each evolved a little bit differently. And as you may guess, only females can sting.
