That's actually relatively LOW compared to some I've seen. The generic brand charging cables went from $10 to $17. Laundry detergent got "clearanced out" at 15% off and then replaced with a bottle with 30% less than the original for the same price.

It's already happened at Target and probably a lot of other places They've rolled out probably 1,000 price changes over the past month and "shrinkflated" a lot of the products that stayed the same price.

I've seen more and more left-wing arguments using this logic. People have decided that if their opponents are going to use unethical or deceptive tactics, then there's no problem with them doing so. Which is a really, really ineffective way to convince people who don't already agree with you

This is doing numbers on Tumblr right now

I was homeschooled my entire life. I absolutely could have told you this would happen.

This is the first I've heard of this, what terms do I need to google to find out more?

I know someone who was hospitalized and almost died from COVID, twice, and still held tight to his anti-mask/anti-vax beliefs. I haven't fully given up on finding a way to get people to listen, but it's extremely easy to get discouraged

Tennessee voter here. We have virtually no local news or police/political transparency here, because it was deemed THOSE things would lower tourist revenue. Trying to get through the industrially thick skulls around here is extremely difficult.

"is being right the point?" Hits the nail on the head I think. Fact is, we're in a BAD spot, and if we want to get out of it we're likely going to have to make some compromises and put off some battles for later. What matters right now is just getting people to recognize and wake up to the danger
March 17, 2025 at 3:37 AM
I completely get that point of view as well. I'm deconstructed now, but I grew up as an uber-conservative Christian homeschooler. Haven't been involved in that world since pre-Trump, but it's very easy for me to understand how people can get trapped there and how bad things can get in those circles

I also did miss an important one of your replies because of the way my phone sent the notifications, so that's partly on me as well. My bad
March 17, 2025 at 3:27 AM
Wasn't as much replying to you personally with the "demonizing" comment as I was responding to OP/the general sentiment I keep seeing. Just kept running out of characters
March 17, 2025 at 3:22 AM
(2/2) if the only path to redemption in our eyes is to admit their entire life was wrong and decide all of their Red family and friends are evil and wrong, the cost of entry is too high for anyone to ever consider changing their mind. Why would you ever switch to a side that will always hate you?
March 17, 2025 at 3:01 AM
Cognitive dissonance is a bitch fr, and I don't have all the answers. But asking someone to change their entire worldview in a heartbeat is unrealistic. If we genuinely want to swing people we have to find an actual middle ground and not permanently demonize them, as hard as that is (1/2)

I agree. But if they feel it deeply and still blame the wrong person, they learn nothing. I think the "FAFO, u deserve it" attitude is kind of cruel/naive at the same time. Echo chambers are very hard to break out of and usually require a postive outside presence that proves them wrong, not anger
March 17, 2025 at 2:39 AM
As someone who lives in one of these states: the ignorance and sheer lack of information a lot of people base their decisions on is HIGH. If you don't point out exactly WHY these things are bad ideas and whose ideas they were, then they find a way to cry "democrat conspiracy" and don't change.

Wicked promotional budget is absolutely insane

Because he keeps suing any news outlet that's blatantly negative towards him for defamation

Bold of you to assume there's actual local newspapers in my part of TN. Everything is either barely veiled tourist ads or sponsored slop hyping up UT.

I wasn't successfully able to get it to let me make an account when I was connected from VPN, but if you figure out a trick to it let me know
January 19, 2025 at 8:27 AM
VPNs don't work, I tested extensively. If your account was flagged as originating from the U.S. you're locked out no matter where you are or where you VPN to
January 19, 2025 at 8:25 AM
The real trick is figuring out a way to get a non-US tiktok account in the first place. Even in a phone that I factory reset, connected only via VPN, and had no SIM card, I was unable to get it to let me create an account
January 19, 2025 at 8:24 AM
If you CONTINUE to see nothing but dancing girls, yes. But if you're setting ANY social account up for the first time and it detects you as a US adult male, the thirst traps take a LOT of effort to escape from. The only way I got away is because the algorithm eventually decided I was trans lol
January 19, 2025 at 8:17 AM
I went through even more steps with an old iPhone and tried re-setting it up in another region and VPNing to that region. I was able to download it from the app store but was unable to make a new account or log in with my previous ones. Guessing it either detected the VPN IP or some fancy geo-lock
