Dominic Ondoro edged out defending half marathon champion Wesley Kiptoo in a photo finish.

They were separated, officially, by a single second. Ondoro finished in 1 hour, 1 minute, 46 seconds. Kiptoo finished in 1:01:47.

Edgewood resident Dave Goggin was driving home when he got a phone call notifying him that a tree had fallen on his neighbor’s home and his.

As fans filled the surrounding parking lots, an airplane pulling a banner circled PNC Park. It exhorted Pirates owner Bob Nutting to sell the team.

"We want our message to be delivered loud and clear,” Gabe Mazefsky, the Pirates fan who raised $4,000 from 400 donors for the banner, said.

Kevin Blackann is actually a native of Youngstown, Ohio, and cheers for the Atlanta Braves. But when he saw this shirt, he couldn’t pass it up.

“I do support the Pirates,” he said. “I found it funny. I feel bad for the organization and its fans, that they are where they are.”

While gates to PNC Park for the Pirates’ home opener against the Yankees won’t open until 2 p.m., Christopher Bolla, 65 of the South Hills, arrived at 10:30 a.m. He was, expectedly, first in line.

“I’d be waiting at home anyways,” Bolla said. “Figured I would come down here.”

More than a dozen people interviewed by the Post-Gazette described moving into homes that looked to be newly refurbished only to discover some of the properties were rife with structural breakdowns, leaking pipes and roofs, black mold, and infestations of insects and rodents.
