Haven't been many wars in the years since wire guided torps became de rigueur where both sides had subs. the indo-pakistani wars were probably the closest to sub v. sub combat post-ww2...so far

personally I run Pihole software on a Raspberry Pi at home, and then connect to my home network using PiVPN which uses wireguard. so no ads here. but that's a lot more setup than just downloading an app and paying $5/mo or whatever

from what I understand all the VPN sites are owned by like two or three companies nowadays, so. illusion of choice

absolutely. for awhile I'd been using private internet access, and it worked great. with the VPN active, DNS queries were routed to PIA's DNS server which would block ad-hosting domains so no ads in your browser or apps. this was 5 years ago so I can't speak to that service's quality anymore

i don't think iPhone is any better with ads and they're not going to shy away from AI everywhere either. you might look at using a VPN that will block ads, that would be the easiest thing
