Unfortunately this story is a common one in the developing world - corrupt governments largely being ignored as private citizens create their own (imperfect) solutions to the problems we face.

Private residences and businesses basically solved the issue of load shedding by installing solar at our own cost. There is almost no feed-back for private generation to access the full potential of this (government and Eskom again).

The mafias that surround Eskom (our power company) and government have been very effective in lobbying against renewables. That is changing but not fast enough.

Agreed . . . in an ideal world we would have reliable grid-scale generation here in SA, but: our grid is coal powered, old and collapsing under the weight of many things but primarily large-scale corruption.
