Closing out 31 Nights of Horror with Prince of Darkness (Carpenter, 1987). I love Nigel Kneale and if you recognize the screenwriter credit (Martin Quatermass) on this film, you probably do too.

Watching The Tenant (Polanski, 1976) for 31 Nights of Horror. It is an excellent film about paranoia, madness, and identity with possibly the worst tagline of all time.

Watching Re-Animator (Gordon, 1985) for 31 Nights of Horror. I’ve been enjoying all of the coverage and appearances associated with the 40th anniversary.

David Cronenberg comes up with the best names for his scientific/technological products. In Scanners, it was ephemerol. In The Brood (1979), psychoplasmics is the technique that allows for the physical manifestation of negative emotions. Watched for 31 Nights of Horror.

I love the Romero “Dead” films but there’s a strong possibility that I’ve watched The Return of the Living Dead (O’Bannon, 1985) more frequently. If you like zombies and punk rock, you really can’t find a better movie for 31 Nights of Horror

Frankenstein (del Toro, 2025) had great performances, outstanding production design, and a lot of heart. Netflix, however, should have given it a proper theatrical release. It was very difficult for me to see and I don’t live in an isolated area. Watched for 31 Nights of Horror.

I always enjoy Basket Case (Henenlotter, 1982). It is the perfect combination of transgressive and goofy.

I love moody, atmospheric films and I love regional 70’s horror. So watching Let’s Scare Jessica to Death (Hancock, 1971) for 31 Nights of Horror was an easy choice.

I saw Hellraiser (Barker, 1987) on opening weekend. I was not prepared. Rewatching again for the countless time for 31 Nights of Horror

Hong Kong Cat III films can even shock the sensibilities of jaded cinephiles. Checking out Devil Fetus (Lau, 1983) for 31 Nights of Horror. I expect it to be wild.

Watching Argento’s last great film for 31 Nights of Horror - Opera (1987). Ranks up there with Tenebrae for some of his best set pieces.

Checking out one that I missed earlier this year for 31 Nights of Horror- Wolf Man (Whannell, 2025)

Mia Farrow, John Cassavetes, & Ruth Gordon head up one of the best casts of all time in Rosemary’s Baby (Polanski, 1968). Watching tonight for 31 Nights of Horror.

The Perfume of the Lady in Black (Barilla, 1974) was a relatively recent discovery for me but I couldn’t resist putting on my list for 31 Nights of Horror. The new 4k release looks and sounds amazing. If you’re at all interested in European horror, I’d highly recommend it.

I’ve seen Edge of the Axe and Symptoms but this will be my first time watching Vampyres (Larraz, 1974) for 31 Nights of Horror

Time to ramp things up for 31 Nights of Horror with one of the greatest of all time- The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (Hooper, 1974)
October 16, 2025 at 11:54 PM
I’m hoping for some creative mayhem in Final Destination Bloodlines (Lipovsky & Stein, 2025) for 31 Nights of Horror

Rewatching another favorite from the last ten years for 31 Nights of Horror- Raw (Ducournau, 2016). Titane made a bigger splash at release but I think I prefer this one.

I first saw this film on VHS under the title “The Possessed”. It’s available now as Demon Witch Child (Ossorio, 1975). Any fans of Cathy’s Curse or Abby should check it out for 31 Nights of Horror.

I debated on whether to include The Devils (Russell, 1971) for 31 Nights of Horror. I’m glad I did. If Witchfinder General and Mark of the Devil are horror films, then so is this.

Baskin (Evrenol, 2015) captured the sense of the profane better than any film I’ve seen since the original Hellraiser. Highly recommended for your 31 Nights of Horror

Checking out one for 31 Nights of Horror that I missed last year- Werewolves (Miller, 2024)
