Another year with a winter Dasysiphonia/Codium seaweed mix. January is generally the peak “Winter Dasysiphonia Inundation” month before it eases up towards February. Both species are invasive and Dasy is able to tolerate cold winter waters.

Water is getting chilly. The Gulf Stream eddies, small streams of warm water that break off the Gulf Stream and help to warm our waters in the summer, have been suppressed south and the seasonal cooldown is in full swing.

Comb jellies came out in large numbers in Nantucket Sound late August-October after an overall “bust” jellyfish season in Nantucket Sound. Comb jellies are jellyfish relatives known as ctneophores.
